Quitting caffeine is not something that is particularly easy.
There are withdrawals that people may have at times, and these can be particularly brutal.
Make sure that these are not something you are also getting from using energy drinks.
Stuff like 5 hour energy and Redbull contain other chemicals and ingredients that make them extra hard to quit. If you are using these, what we suggest is quitting these first and then switching to something like coffee or just caffeine pills.
Women’s Health has a great guide about 8 things that happen when you quit drinking caffeine.
This way you won’t be dealing with all of the taurine, B vitamins, etc. that you are getting from those(we had to include this tip as many people are constantly drinking energy drinks these days).
Once you have isolated your consumption down to just caffeine though, and are then ready to quit, here is a basic guide:
1. Make sure to drink a lot of water – staying hydrated is key during detoxification.
2. Get energy by replacing your caffeine with exercise – when you quit caffeine, you are going to be craving something for an energy boost. Use exercise or going to the gym for this.
3. Stay away from temptation – do not go to Starbucks with your friends and get rid of your coffee machine at home.
What To Expect And A General Caffeine Withdrawal Timeline
During this phase caffeine withdrawal is very rough but you are still able to cope.
This is the WORST phase of all, as your body gets rid of the actual metabolites and actually becomes “clean” for practical purposes.
These suck because you want to relapse, BUT you will not with the right willpower and coping strategy. And as time goes on, life gets better and better.
Other General Tips
Hang out with people that are also quitting caffeine and/or not using it at all.
This way you won’t be tempted so much to use it.
Try to reach for a replacement whenever you feel the need, btw.
And don’t become somebody who is constantly using different stuff to cope with this feeling.
If you do all of these, you can be free of caffeine in 10 days, and stay off for as long as you need.Follow us on social media:
